Individual & Family Therapy

Therapy session discussion

Individual therapy is a private, one-on-one service that allows clients to speak openly with a licensed mental health professional in a supportive setting. The goal is to understand thoughts and emotions, address personal challenges, and build effective coping skills.

Therapy can support many concerns, such as:

• Anxiety and depression
• Trauma and grief
• Stress and life changes
• Identity and self-esteem concerns
• Relationship issues and emotional regulation

Therapists use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution Focused techniques, and Mindfulness practices to create a plan that fits each person’s needs. Through this process, clients can increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and work toward meaningful personal growth.

INIDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Family therapy is a collaborative form of counseling that brings multiple family members together to address relationship challenges, improve communication, and strengthen healthy connection. This approach recognizes that each person is shaped by the dynamics within their family, and meaningful change often happens when the family works together.

With guidance from a trained therapist, sessions offer a structured space where families can:

• Understand one another’s experiences
• Identify and shift unhelpful interaction patterns
• Build stronger communication and problem-solving skills

Family therapy can be helpful for a wide range of situations, including parenting concerns, blended family adjustments, adolescent behavioral or emotional issues, substance use and recovery, mental health conditions, and major life changes such as loss, separation, or relocation.

The overall goal is to create greater empathy, support, and connection within the family, leading to healthier relationships and improved emotional well-being for everyone involved.

 Crisis Intervention

Crisis Intervention

What Is Crisis Intervention?

Crisis intervention provides immediate, short-term support for individuals facing acute emotional, mental, physical, or behavioral distress. This service works to quickly stabilize the situation, ensure safety, and restore the individual’s ability to function. By offering calm guidance, assessing needs, and connecting individuals with ongoing care, crisis intervention helps prevent long-term trauma and supports a smoother transition back to daily life.

What Is Considered a Crisis?

A crisis can arise from many different situations, such as:

• Experiencing a traumatic event
• The death of someone close
• Ongoing family or relationship difficulties
• A mental health or medical emergency
• Challenges related to substance use
• Exposure to violence or a natural disaster

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or at risk of harming themselves or others, call 911 right away.

Who Is Eligible?

To receive crisis intervention services, individuals must:

• Be enrolled in Texas Medicaid, which is required for service eligibility.
• Be experiencing an active crisis that requires immediate support for safety and stabilization.
• Complete a crisis assessment with our team to determine needs and next steps.
• Use available service options, including in-office, in-home, virtual, or community-based care, based on what best fits their situation.

Medication Training

Therapy Session

Medication Training and Support Services help individuals build the knowledge and confidence needed to safely and effectively manage their psychiatric medications. By increasing understanding of how medications work and why they are prescribed, clients are better prepared to manage symptoms, support recovery, and maintain long-term stability.

This service focuses on improving a client’s ability to make informed decisions about their care. Sessions may cover topics such as how medication supports mental health conditions, what side effects to expect, and how to take medication correctly. Clients also learn how certain foods, substances, or other medications may interact with their treatment.

Key areas of support include:

• Understanding the purpose and benefits of prescribed medications
• Learning how medication supports symptom management and daily functioning
• Exploring how medications relate to a diagnosis
• Reviewing interactions with food, other medications, and substances
• Increasing awareness of overdose risks and prevention
• Recognizing and responding to side effects
• Practicing proper self-administration
• Encouraging consistent adherence to treatment recommendations

Medication Training and Support Services are available to eligible individuals and may also be provided to a legally authorized representative or primary caregiver. This ensures that everyone involved in the client’s care has the knowledge needed to support safe and effective medication use.

Targeted Case Management

Working with Vintage Typewriter

Targeted Case Management (TCM) provides support to individuals who meet specific diagnostic and clinical requirements. Within the Texas Medicaid Program, Mental Health Targeted Case Management is offered to children, adolescents, and adults who have been diagnosed with one or more chronic mental health conditions that meet the criteria outlined in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association.

Eligibility is confirmed through a standardized assessment that determines whether the individual has a qualifying diagnosis and would benefit from case management services.

Please note that individuals whose only diagnosis is an Intellectual or Developmental Disability, a related condition, or a Substance Use Disorder do not qualify for Mental Health Targeted Case Management.

MHTCM includes two levels of service:

  • Intensive Case Management:
Delivered primarily within the community, Intensive Case Management supports the client or their legally authorized representative by helping identify, coordinate, and secure the services needed to address the client’s individualized goals. These interactions may take place with or without the client present and involve a higher level of involvement and support.

  • Routine Case Management:
Routine Case Management is typically provided in an office setting and offers many of the same coordination and support functions as intensive services, but with less frequency and intensity. This level of service helps clients access needed care and resources while maintaining regular follow-up and support.

Eligibility by Age:

  • Clients 20 years old and younger may qualify for both intensive and routine case management services.

  • Clients 21 years and older are eligible for routine case management only.

Skills Training and Development

Speech Therapy Session

Skills Training and Development helps individuals build the practical skills needed to manage symptoms of serious mental illness and function effectively at home, school, work, and in the community. This service supports clients in addressing emotional and behavioral challenges, improving daily living abilities, strengthening communication, and making healthy decisions.

Support may include daily routines, social interaction, confidence-building, anger and stress management, communication skills, transportation use, budgeting, parenting support, and accessing community resources. Caregivers and legally authorized representatives may also receive guidance to help them support the client’s goals.

Please note: Skills Training and Development cannot be provided at the same time as Psychosocial Rehabilitative Services.

Psychosocial Rehabilitative SERVICES

Psychosocial Rehabilitative Services (PSR) are structured, goal-directed supports that help individuals improve social, behavioral, and cognitive functioning. These services are provided by trained staff to adults ages 17 and older who are living with serious mental illness and need assistance rebuilding important life skills and increasing independence.

PSR helps clients strengthen their ability to build healthy relationships, succeed at school or work, and manage daily responsibilities. Support may include help with daily living tasks such as hygiene, budgeting, and meal preparation, as well as assistance with employment needs, housing resources, medication management, and understanding co-occurring conditions that affect functioning.

The purpose of PSR is to promote stability, support recovery, and improve overall quality of life by reducing barriers to daily living.

Please note: Individuals receiving PSR cannot receive Skills Training and Development or Targeted Case Management at the same time. PSR is also not available for individuals currently admitted to a Crisis Stabilization Unit.
